About Dive Melbourne
Dive Melbourne is your intelligent dive planning companion for Melbourne and the surrounding coastline. We help divers of all skill levels select the perfect dive site by matching dive type, experience level, and personal interests with real-time sea conditions and detailed weather forecasts.
From the sheltered piers of Port Phillip Bay to the dramatic ocean reefs of the Mornington Peninsula and beyond, our platform covers 132 shore dive sites and a growing list of boat dive trips. Each site includes detailed descriptions, ideal condition windows, and live scoring so you can make informed decisions about when and where to dive.
Whether you are a beginner looking for calm, protected waters or an experienced diver seeking challenging drift dives, Dive Melbourne ensures you find the right conditions for a safe and rewarding experience.
How It Works
Every dive site on Dive Melbourne has a set of ideal conditions defined by experienced local divers. These cover wind direction and speed, swell height and direction, and tide state. Our system continuously compares these ideals against live weather forecast data to generate a condition score for each site.
Condition Scoring
Each site receives a real-time score based on how closely current and forecast conditions match the site's ideal wind, swell, and tide requirements.
Ideal Dive Windows
We calculate time periods throughout the day when conditions are expected to be within the ideal range, helping you plan exactly when to be in the water.
Multi-Day Forecasts
Browse up to 7 days ahead with wind, tide, and swell graphs overlaid with ideal condition shading, so you can plan your dives days in advance.
All weather, tide, and swell data is sourced from WillyWeather, the Bureau of Meteorology, and Open-Meteo. Condition scores are generated by automated algorithms and should be used as a planning aid, not a substitute for personal judgement and local knowledge. See our Disclaimer for full details.
About Me
Hi, I'm Serge. I've been diving since 2008, when I completed my first open water course in Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef. Since then I've continued as a recreational diver, completing Nitrox, dry suit, and rescue courses along the way. I'm comfortable to 40 metres. How many dives have I done? Not enough. But then, ask any diver and they'll tell you the same thing.
Over the years I've organised Dive Against Debris clean-up events, recovering tens of kilograms of rubbish from local dive sites. I've also had the privilege of participating in underwater archaeological excavations, which gave me a deeper appreciation for what lies beneath the surface.
These days I'm a dad of two, which means I don't get to dive as often as I'd like. When I do manage to get in the water, it tends to be quick local shore dives around Melbourne or the occasional budget diving trip overseas, about once a year. I'm passionate about making diving accessible and affordable, and I'd love to share what I've learned about budget-friendly dive travel.

Why I Built This
As a part-time diver with limited local experience, I used to spend more time deciding where and when to dive than actually diving. Melbourne has dozens of fantastic dive sites, but choosing the right one on any given day meant checking wind forecasts, tide charts, swell predictions, and trying to remember which sites work best in which conditions. It was genuinely overwhelming, and I'd often procrastinate until the window had passed.
I built Dive Melbourne to solve that problem, for myself and for other divers in the same boat. The site overlays each dive site's ideal conditions against real-time weather and sea data, giving you a clear picture of where conditions are best right now and over the coming days. Instead of juggling multiple forecast websites and trying to match them against scattered notes, you get a single view that shows you the best options at a glance.
My hope is that Dive Melbourne helps fellow divers spend less time planning and more time underwater.
